How can you tell it is winter? The colder temperatures? The snow and ice on the ground? Well, those things help but my biggest hint or at least the one that is relevant to a knitting blog is that I am knitting more.
In my last post I mentioned that I purchased some yarn at Paradise Fibers when I was in Spokane. I know my faithful readers were disappointed that there were no pictures of these purchases so I had to remedy the situation.
The first item is Misti Alpaca hand painted sock yarn in Reggaeton. It is so soft!

The second item is Mountain Colors hand painted sock yarn in Huckleberry. This yarn is also very soft and Mountain Colors is located in Corvallis, Montana.

The first two yarns were ones I have been looking at and drooling over for years. The third and last yarn item I purchased was something I saw for the first time but I fell in love with it immediately. It is Poems Sock yarn in Tropical Sunset and the colors are amazing.

The other items I purchased were a couple sets of double pointed needles. I didn’t have dpns in size 1 and my size 0 ones were slowing me down so I decided to get some Addi Turbos. The lady at the store convinced me to try Square Needles. I was skeptical but she said that everyone loves them that tries them so I decided to give them a try. I haven’t tried them yet but plan to try them with my next project. I’ll let you know what I think.
Lastly, I forgot to put one of my finished objects in my last blog post so I thought I would add it here. This little project is a great way to practice stranded color work. It is one of the many projects in the kit called Tidings of Joy from Knitpicks.

You can see how small it is by comparing it to the little light next to it. It is a fun little knit and I’m looking forward to more projects from this kit.
I hope your Christmas preparations are bringing you joy this holiday season.

We enjoyed a beautiful snowfall this weekend. Unfortunately the snow is covered with a layer of ice now but that won’t dampen my Christmas spirit.
We drew Secret Santas at work this year and the person I got had previously asked me to knit her a pair of socks. I knew what her final gift was going to be and after some investigation to find out her shoe size and color preferences I knit these:

Generic sock pattern in Regia sock yarn in Clown Rings. I hope they fit and that she likes them.
In other knitting news I finally got around to replacing the slippers that I gave my oldest sister, Joyce. The first ones I gave her (last Christmas) were too small and I promised to make her another pair. The pattern is Fuzzy Feet done with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes and then a suede sole sewn on with a blanket stitch. I plan to put these in the mail tomorrow providing the roads are open.

I had a class in Spokane earlier this month and was able to visit Paradise Fibers which I had ordered from in the past but had never been to. Aside from the scary location, the store was nice and the people working there were even nicer. While I was there I purchased some yarn that I am very excited about and will be posting my works in progress as I go.
I’ll leave you with some pictures of the ice storm we had here in Northeast Oregon/Southeast Washington. There was a large section of highway and freeway that was closed due to the weather. I wondered if my mail was going to be delivered and not only was it delivered, check out my mailbox.
Until next time, Happy Knitting!

Seeing the cute pictures of Kailyn in her outfit inspired me to knit again. Socks make the best knitting projects during the summer because there isn’t very much fabric lying on your lap. I promised a friend that I would knit her some socks for her birthday (last spring) so this project made the most sense to pick up again. I was doing them on a long circular needle, toe-up and two at a time. Part of the reason I put the project down was that it was frustrating me, so I decided to frog that project and do socks the way I enjoy doing them (one at a time, cuff down, on double pointed needles). Why mess with a good thing? So that is what I did and here is the result:

These are Ribble Socks from the book Socks Socks Socks knit with Risata Sock Yarn in Marionberry from KnitPicks. This is my first project with Risata and I was skeptical about what it was going to be like. It is a cotton/wool blend with elastic in the middle and is very nice to work with. We’ll see how they wear. I can’t wait to give them to Kalani.
